How Does Acupuncture Work?
According to traditional Chinese medicine, there are about 400 different points of the body linked together by a network of “meridians”.
These “nerve centers” control the flow of our vital life energy forces called ‘Qi’ (pronounced chee). Health is determined by the flow of Qi and Blood along these meridian pathways beneath the skin in the body. Illness only results when Qi and Blood are out of balance. To rebalance the energy, trained acupuncturists insert disposable hair-thin stainless steel needles at a slight angle to stimulate a new flow of healing energy.
Western medicine understands the release of “endorphins” vital to energizing the body’s attempts to protect and restore itself when threatened. Chinese medicine produces results by stimulating the natural defenses of the body with acupuncture and natural herbs. It is a self-healing system that has produced undeniable results for thousands of years without unnecessary surgery or the use of drugs with serious side effects.
What are the great advantages from Chinese medicine?
- It is a completely natural therapy. We use sterilized and disposable needles which are inserted into the body and high quality Chinese herbs to stimulate the body and bring it back into balance. There are no side effects. This means a great deal to those who have chronic illnesses and take many medications.
- The body is a whole system. Chinese medicine emphasizes
body and environment as a whole. The weather, seasons, living
and
work condition are affecting our health. Each part of the body
is connected. A headache can be a sign of organ imbalance.
Many symptoms can be caused by one imbalance of the organs.
So it
is important for us to treat the whole person, not just symptoms.
- We treat every person individually. Many
people have the same disease but the individual condition is
different so the treatment
is different. For example, two people have bronchitis, one
has yellow and thick sputum, we believe the body has too much
heat,
which is too much Yang. The other person has clear thin sputum;
that means too much Yin is in the body. So the treatment of
bronchitis for two cases will be two completely different formulas.
- To treat a disease, we are always looking
for the cause. Any symptom of a disease is an imbalance of
internal organs. Treating
the cause of disease will bring the body back to balance.
What Other Methods Do We Use to Treat Patients?

Herbology is the preparation and use all natural plants
and minerals as prescriptive medicine. Traditional Chinese herbology
treats
many disorders and diseases. Like foods, herbs affect blood and
qi disorders through nourishment and assimilation.
Auricular Acupuncture (ear points), is used with body acupuncture
as a means of drug and alcohol detoxification amid withdrawal,
weight control and relaxation promotion.
Moxibustion, closely related to and often practiced with acupuncture,
is the local and focused application of heat to acupoints using
a compressed, powdered substance (moxa), which is heated near
the acupoints stimulated to increase blood circulation.

Tuina is traditional Chinese soft tissue massage and structural
adjustment to treat injury, deformity and chronic muscle disorder.
This approach treats tissues, bones, ligaments and tendons to enhance
and regulate the flow of qi, blood and fluids in the body.

Cupping is a technique that is especially useful in the treatment
of problems of local qi, or blood stagnation in the channels,
and is usually performed as an alternative to acupuncture.
Dietary Medicine is a strong method of self-treatment handed down
in China. The TCM doctor, recommends an energetically balanced
diet to treat disharmonies and particularly many diseases in the
digestive system.
